Würth Elektronik’s digital leap: sales and catalogue in one app

Client: Würth Elektronik

Business context

Würth Elektronik, part of Würth Group, has been supplying electronic and electromechanical components, PCBs, and power and control systems for over 50 years, operating from 23 production sites worldwide. In 2015, the company faced the need to adapt its sales and marketing processes to a mobile-first reality – customers and sales teams expected fast, interactive access to a broad product portfolio and materials supporting decision-making.

The existing static formats for presenting the offer and fragmented tools for handling customer data were no longer meeting market needs. The goal became to create a solution that would combine a modern multimedia catalogue with sales features and customer relationship management, while also ensuring availability both online and offline on mobile devices.

Challenge

The key challenge was to design one cohesive application that would include an extensive media catalogue (images, PDF files, and other materials), simplify the order placement process, and centralise customer data and interactions. The solution had to support field sales teams while retaining full functionality without network access.

An additional difficulty was ensuring the same user experience on iOS and Android, as well as intuitive navigation across a broad product range. Map functionality, calendar integration, and a basket were also required, all while maintaining high data quality and minimising data entry errors.

Solution

Leaware built the solution based on Xamarin, delivering one cohesive application running on iOS and Android. The app combines an interactive multimedia catalogue with search features, a map, customer data management, calendar integration, and order and basket handling, significantly shortening the path from product presentation to transaction completion.

The offline-online architecture ensures full availability of content and key functions regardless of connectivity, with intelligent synchronisation once internet access is restored. As a result, sales representatives received a single tool for field work, marketing gained an effective medium for presenting the offer, and the organisation obtained centralised, consistent data to support business decisions.
