Lifemate: where fans meet stars

Client: Flow Pilots

Business context

Flow Pilots, a Belgian software company connecting the needs of business, IT and end users, was looking for a way to build a direct communication channel between fans and well-known athletes. In 2016, the Lifemate project was launched – a mobile app designed to reduce the distance between everyday users and their idols in a controlled and secure way.

Leaware was invited to design and deliver a solution including iOS and Android apps, as well as a web panel intended exclusively for celebrities and administrators. This enabled sports stars to manage content and profiles conveniently on larger screens, while fans could initiate interactions directly from their phones.

Lifemate was intended to provide a scalable, user-friendly and properly secured communication channel. The cross-platform approach guaranteed broad reach, while dedicated moderation tools ensured control over published materials and the privacy of public figures.

Challenge

The key challenge was to combine high responsiveness and ease of use with a rigorous approach to security and the privacy of high-profile users. The platform had to handle large volumes of interactions and multimedia content without compromising the quality of the fan experience.

Equally important was the need to provide celebrities and administrators with clear tools for managing profiles, content and interactions, ideally on larger screens. This required roles and permissions, visibility control and moderation mechanisms, as well as solid performance and security foundations that would provide full control over exposure and data.

Solution

Leaware built Lifemate as a cross-platform solution in Xamarin using MvvmCross, delivering a native experience on iOS and Android. The server layer was based on WebAPI 2 Full REST, while the web panel for stars and administrators was developed in AngularJS ver. 1, with the entire solution running on Azure Web App to ensure high availability and flexible scaling.

Azure Media Services and Azure WebJobs were used for multimedia handling and asynchronous tasks respectively, while monitoring and telemetry were provided by Azure Insights. Authentication, roles and permissions, privacy settings, and tools for profile editing and content publishing were implemented so that stars could manage their public image conveniently, while fans could make contact securely.

The architecture and development process were focused on security, performance and usability. As a result, the platform effectively connects users with their sporting idols, while ensuring full control over content and privacy on the celebrity side.
