Digital chandelier try-ons for Krebs
Business context
Krebs is a Swedish premium manufacturer whose chandeliers — ranging from classic and retro to contemporary designs — adorn exclusive apartments, five-star hotels and prestigious entertainment venues across Sweden and Norway. The high value of the products, combined with their strong aesthetic dimension, means that the purchasing decision requires confidence that the piece will suit the interior.
Due to its international customer base, traditional showroom visits were not always possible or convenient. In 2015, the company decided to digitally support the selection process. The goal was to provide an easy-to-use mobile application that would allow customers to see how a selected chandelier would look in their own space before making a purchase.
Challenge
The key challenge was to enable customers to visualise a chandelier in an interior convincingly without any physical contact with the product. For international customers, who rarely have access to a showroom, the lack of context in terms of scale, style and proportions made it difficult to choose with confidence.
It was essential to design a solution with a highly intuitive interface so that the selection and “try-on” process would be quick and seamless. The application had to present the current product range through synchronisation with an external source, while also ensuring smooth performance on iOS devices and maintaining clarity and accuracy in the representation on users’ photos.
Solution
Leaware developed an intuitive iOS application for Krebs that guides users through the process of selecting a model from a list of chandeliers synchronised with an external data source. As a result, the product range remains up to date without requiring manual updates on the user’s side.
In the application, the customer takes a photo of their room and then overlays the selected chandelier onto it, adjusting its position and size. This visualisation makes it possible to assess proportions, style and fit within the interior design, significantly increasing confidence in the purchasing decision.
The simple, user-friendly interface and shortened selection journey eliminate the need for showroom visits, which is particularly valuable for international customers. The solution focuses on real user needs, simplifying a complex product choice into a few clear steps completed on a smartphone.
