Business context

BNP Paribas Fortis, the largest bank in Belgium and part of the BNP Paribas group, aimed to make its full range of services available on mobile devices. The goal was to provide customers with a convenient, secure and intuitive service channel matching the quality of traditional branches and online banking.

Before the launch of Easy Banking App, customers relied mainly on traditional banking methods, which were often time-consuming and offered limited flexibility. In 2015, with growing expectations around mobility and instant access, the bank needed a solution that combined bank-grade security with the user experience expected from the best mobile applications.

The project was intended to deliver consistent access to everyday operations such as viewing accounts, making transfers, managing direct debits, handling cards and processing bills via Zoomit, while maintaining the highest security standards and ease of use for a broad user base.


Challenge

The key challenge was to build a comprehensive and secure mobile banking system covering core banking functions within one consistent user experience. The application had to be efficient, stable and compliant with regulatory requirements, ensuring data protection, strong authentication and reliable performance at scale.

The functional scope included, among others, a demo mode for non-logged-in users, account overview, advanced search, card management, social integrations, as well as payment and instruction handling. At the same time, it was necessary to maintain a simple, intuitive interface that would minimise entry barriers and support everyday use of the application.


Solution

Leaware used its enterprise-grade mobile application development expertise to design Easy Banking App based on Win10 and MVVMcross. This technology stack enabled the creation of a solution compatible with iOS and Android, while the MVVM pattern accelerated development and made testing and ongoing maintenance easier.

The application provides access to key banking functions anytime and anywhere: account overview, instant transfers, direct debits, card management, bill handling via Zoomit and advanced search. Secure login and a multi-profile wizard were implemented for greater convenience, along with a demo mode for unauthorised users and social integrations.

The priority was to combine the highest level of security with ease of use. Data protection mechanisms and authentication best practices were implemented, while the interface was designed to guide users through operations in a clear and fast way, increasing adoption and customer satisfaction.
